Martinez/Yazzie Action Plan
Rooted in Equity, Committed to Action
New Mexico Public Education Department In partnership with LANL Foundation, LESC & WestEd

The Martinez/Yazzie Action Plan is New Mexico’s formal response to a landmark court ruling that found the state failed to meet its constitutional obligation to provide a uniform and sufficient education for all students, particularly Native American students, English learners, students with disabilities, and students experiencing poverty.

Led by the New Mexico Public Education Department (PED), the plan is being developed in partnership with the LANL Foundation, the Legislative Education Study Committee, and WestEd. Together, these partners are working to ensure the plan reflects the voices and lived experiences of those most impacted.

The action plan addresses five core areas required by the court:
-
Equitable access to high-quality instruction
-
Access to well-prepared, culturally and linguistically responsive educators
-
Academic, social, and behavioral support services
-
Fair and effective funding to meet student needs
-
Data and accountability systems to drive continuous improvement
